President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday rescheduled the Federal Executive Council meeting to a yet-to-be-announced date following the death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja on Tuesday night.
His death has shocked the entire Federal Executive Council. Although it was to the notice members of the council that the COAS was sick which led to the appointment of Acting COAS.
“Initially scheduled for today, the council meeting was postponed in honour of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on Tuesday night,” Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced on Wednesday.
The statement was titled, ‘Lagbaja: President Tinubu Postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting.’
After announcing the postponement at the Council Chamber, Vice President Kashim Shettima led other council members in observing a minute’s silence in honour of the late Army Chief.
Shettima also announced that ministers would proceed to Tinubu’s official residence to pay him a condolence visit, saying, “Let’s do so as a family; this is the proper thing to do.”
“The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, will convene all of you at the residence,” he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
