Cyber Security Levy Bill Will Return After Due Consultations – Reps’ Spokesperson

Akin Rotimi

The issue of Cyber Security Levy has been described as a good intention of the Federal Government but was suspended by the House of Representatives to give room for more consultation with a view to find a better funding model for security in the country.

The spoke person of the House of Representatives, Mr. Akin Rotimi Jr stated this last week in an interview with journalists in his office. Noting that, the House suspended the issue because there was misconception about the whole idea. Therefore, there is the need for more consultation for better understanding.

According to Rotimi, there is  need to have a long term plan for Cyber security funding model in the country looking at the rate of crimes that are committed online.

He said, the House of Representatives in its collective wisdom, see the need to suspend the Bill because Nigerians are over stretched economically, looking at multiple taxation and the hardship sequel to the removal of fuel subsidy and there is high inflation in the country.

Mr. Rotimi further revealed that, the Bill will be represented after due consultations have been concluded with members of the National assembly who are from different parties and Nigerians generally.

The Spoke Person noted that, there is the need for better understanding on the issues; as such, he calls on the media and the National Orientation Agency to do the needful in enlightening and educating Nigerians on the issue.
