The Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has been elected as the President of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FORAF).

Fayemi was returned unopposed in an election on Friday in the city of Saidia in Oujda in the state of Casablanca in Morocco.

In a statement, NGF’s spokesman, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo said the West Africa caucus ensured that Fayemi was returned unopposed.

According to Bello-Barkindo, Fayemi, in his acceptance speech, described the victory as a burden of history.

Fayemi said leadership isn’t just a title but an instrument that should be used to influence policy and utilised for total positive impact on our people.

Fayemi added that Africans must begin to align with what’s happening at the national and make it work for the subnational.He stated that it was time that Africans stopped agonising and start organizing

Fayemi thanked the “organisers who made our stay memorable and comfortable,” and expressed gratitude to the kingdom of Morocco and the king “for his commitment to African regional communities.”

He urged all at the event to exhibit the desire to work in tandem with the AU agenda.

Fayemi said, after a meeting with the new cabinet, it became necessary to set up a tech committee to review the forum’s workbook to firm up the new direction of the continental Forum.

He told the audience that three other Governors from were in attendance as a measure of how seriously Nigeria takes the forum.

There are Governors Godwin Obaseki(Edo); Abdullahi Sule(Nasarawa) and Abdullahi Ganduje( Kano). (The Nation)
