The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Nigeria has lauded the launch of the Generation Unlimited Nigeria, GenU 9JA, National Secretariat, describing it as a major step towards placing young people at the centre of governance and national development.
The Secretariat, formally inaugurated on March 31, 2026, is domiciled within the Office of the Vice President, a move seen as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to youth empowerment and inclusion.
UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Wafaa Saeed, said the development marks an important milestone in the collective effort to connect young Nigerians to learning, skills, and economic opportunities at scale.
Saeed noted that since its launch in 2021, Generation Unlimited Nigeria has reached over 11 million young people across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, providing access to digital skills, employment pathways, and civic engagement opportunities, particularly for young women and those from marginalized communities.
According to Saeed, with a target of reaching 20 million youths by 2030, the establishment of the National Secretariat signals a new phase in expanding impact and strengthening coordination among key stakeholders.
The Secretariat, co-led by the Office of the Vice President and UNICEF under the Generation Unlimited Nigeria Public-Private-Youth Partnership, will serve as a high-level coordination and systems integration hub.
It is expected to bring together government ministries, private sector actors, development partners, and young people to drive policies and programmes focused on skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion.
