NURTW Leadership Tussle: Members Advised To Remain Calm, Wait For Appeal Court Judgments

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has advised  its members to remain calm and awat  the judgment of the Appeal Court in  respect of the lcurrent eadership crisis the Union is facing.

The Acting President of the Union Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore gave the advice during an emergency meeting with all the zonal chairmen and secretaries, state chairmen and secretaries , treasurers with the National administrative councils and members.

On his remarks, the acting president, Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, said the objective of the emergency meeting is to inform members of the current happenings in relations to the conteovercy sorrounding rhe union

He strongly condemed the insinuationas being pedled in the social media that Ibikunle Baruwa and his accompalice have the authority of the UNION while the case is still in Court of Appeal as explained by the acting president of the Union Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore

“He said Alhaji Baruwa is probably holding unto the verdicts of a National Industrial court which conceded victory to him, against our simple application for fair hearing.

” However, there is a pending appeal as that judgment was immediately appealed against. Our appeal has been duly entered at the Court of Appeal and issued with appeal No.CA/ABJ/CV/293/2024 The record of proceedings of the National Industrial Court, where the Court handed off the case and directed parties to submit themselves to the appellate jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal, were duly communicated to all parties.”

He further added that as it is, the recognized leadership of the NURTW remains the one headed by Alh. Aliyu Issa Ore in an acting capacity, alongside other elected officers, which had been communicated to the Ministry of Labour and other agencies via the said letter of Introduction.

Alhaji Issa Ore further said In view of this, the Union find it necessary to reiterate that the Federal Ministry of Labour which is the supervising Ministry of the NURTW did not and does not recognize the election allegedly conducted by Alh. Ibikunle Baruwa, saying the ministry had after due intervention/mediation, directed the Union, via a letter dated 20th October, 2023 to conduct another election, which was duly done on 25th October, 2023 and which resulted in the election and swearing in of certain National officers.

The Acting President  also said The National Leadership duly introduced the newly elected officers of the Union to the Federal
Ministry of Labour and Employment via a letter of introduction dated 31 October 2023, while the ministry accordingly responded thereto

Addressing the gathering earlier, the chairman Board of Trustees of the Union Alhaji Najeem Yasin advised all to continue to be united so that the established institution for years would not be destroyed for self

Alhaji Najeem called on Alhaji Baruwa and his accompalice to go back to the South West and get

their full support for him to be able to claim what he has been claiming.

He assured all and sundary that very soon, all these problems will be resolved for the Union to prosper and continue as one indivisible union as it was.

On their part state chairmen and other officials were fully in support of the position of the leadership Alhaji Aliyu Turaki Zaria chairman of Kaduna State said the decision is in line with law that once an issue is before the court no one should take any action until what the Appeal Courdecides.
