Out of the 102 projects promised and executed Agriculture is the one that received greater attention by Senator Kawu Sumaila in his efforts to deliver the promise he has made in 2023.
He stated this today at an event organised by the Correspondence Chapel of NUJ to review his 2023 campaign promises.
“Agriculture and irrigation emain central to the livelihoods of thousands of residents across the district. Projects linked to irrigation infrastructure, including the Kafin Chiri Dam, are expected to strengthen dry-season farming, boost agricultural productivity and provide farmers with more sustainable opportunities beyond the rainy season”. Senator Suleiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila has begun a comprehensive review of the promises he made to the people of Kano South during the 2023 election campaign, citing 102 projects and interventions delivered across the senatorial district ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The review highlights interventions spread across the 16 local government areas of Kano South with emphasis on critical sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, irrigation, education, healthcare and economic empowerment. The initiatives are being presented as part of efforts to translate electoral promises into tangible benefits for constituents.
A major focus of the interventions is agriculture and irrigation, which remain central to the livelihoods of thousands of residents across the district. Projects linked to irrigation infrastructure, including the Kafin Chiri Dam, are expected to strengthen dry-season farming, boost agricultural productivity and provide farmers with more sustainable opportunities beyond the rainy season.
In the area of infrastructure, the interventions include roads, bridges, rural access routes and erosion-control projects aimed at improving connectivity between communities. Improved road networks are expected to ease the movement of people and farm produce, enhance access to markets and stimulate commercial activities across Kano South.
Education also features prominently in the Senator’s intervention programme, with more than 1,000 students and scholars benefiting from various forms of educational support.
The provision of school furniture is also aimed at improving the learning environment and creating better conditions for pupils and students in public schools across the district.
The health sector has equally received attention, with interventions including the provision of hospital equipment and beds, support for students pursuing health-related courses and the construction of a 40-bed hospital at Zarewa in Rogo Local Government Area.
Beyond community-based projects, Senator Kawu has also pursued efforts to attract major federal institutions and investments to Kano South. These include the proposed Federal Medical Centre and Federal Polytechnic, initiatives that could expand access to specialised healthcare and technical education while creating employment and stimulating economic activities.
The emerging scorecard comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, making the review of the Senator’s 2023 campaign promises particularly significant.
The 102 interventions provide a basis for assessing the extent to which commitments made during the last election have translated into concrete projects and opportunities for constituents.
Senator Kawu has maintained that his representation is focused on delivering measurable development and creating opportunities for the people of Kano South.
He has also continued to engage the Federal Government and relevant agencies to secure additional projects and interventions for communities across the 16 local government areas.
