Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Federal Government for suspending the planned increase in the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination fees, describing the decision as a thoughtful intervention that will ease the financial burden on millions of Nigerian families and safeguard access to quality education.
Governor Yusuf gave the commendation on Tuesday during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers for basic and secondary schools, alongside the engagement of 3,688 Abba Gida-Gida BESDA Cohort V Facilitators at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.

The Governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for implementing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving access, quality, and equity in education.
He particularly praised the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, for his leadership and commitment to policies that promote inclusive and affordable education across the country.
Governor Yusuf further expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), under the leadership of Hajiya Aisha Garba, for their unrelenting support to Kano State, particularly the timely release of counterpart funds that have accelerated the construction and rehabilitation of schools as well as the execution of other critical basic education projects across the state.
Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf reiterated the State Government’s readiness to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, UBEC, NECO, and other relevant agencies to ensure that investments in education translate into improved learning outcomes.
